I am so excited to be on the Indiesew Blogger team this year and cannot wait to tell you all about the Orchid Parasol jumpsuit that I made as part of this collaboration.

Ever since I made my first jumpsuit back in October last year, I’d been pleasantly surprised at how often I chose to wear it. I’d been meaning to make another one for a while now. As I was browsing through the Indiesew fabric collection, I came across this gorgeous crepe rayon in Monstera print and knew it would be perfect for my jumpsuit.

I love this large scale tropical print, it’s going to be perfect going into spring and summer. This rayon blend has lots of drape with a really soft crinkly texture. I found this substrate fairly easy to work with as it doesn’t slip or shift during cutting or sewing like some rayons do. It has enough weight and body that it would be perfect for making pants or culottes or even a swishy maxi with lots of volume!

The Orchid X Parasol is a mash-up of two patterns; the Orchid Midi and the Parasol Trouser and Jumpsuit. It allows you to mix and match three wrap style bodices and sleeve options along with four bottoms options that can be sewn together in several different combinations.

I settled on the Orchid wrap bodice with lined ruffle sleeves and the Parasol Trousers in long pants length. I also chose to make the wide belt ties along with belt loops instead of the elastic waistband casing. It’s a little hard to see but one of my favorite design details in this pattern are the slant pockets that are integrated into the seam lines of the pants.

Since the fabric doesn’t have a clear right or wrong side, I could’ve left the sleeves unlined and simply hemmed them. But, hemming these circular sleeves is slightly tedious and there’s that risk of a wonky hem so I opted instead to line them as the tutorial suggests.

The wrap style bodice eliminates the need for a button or a zip closure so the whole garment comes together rather quickly. For a quick note on the size I chose, my bust (32″) and hips (35.5″) put me in a size 0 while my waist (26.5″) is between sizes 2 and 4. Based on the finished measurements chart, I found that the pattern has enough ease in the waist, that I could make a straight 0 for both the bodice and pants. I did shorten the pants by 3″ (For reference, I am 5′).

This Monstera leaf jumpsuit was such a joy to sew up and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. What about you? what would you make with this gorgeous print?
