Hi friends
We are on the sixth day of promoting patterns from Kennis Wong’s Book “SEW BEAUTIFUL”. The book includes 8 beautiful and stylish patterns that will help you create garments that can be worn through the year. I found the designs both beginner friendly and practical for every day wear. The patterns range from basic knit and woven tops and bottom wear such as joggers and skirt styles to stylish dresses as well as a cardigan and wrap jacket. These can all be mixed and matched to create a cohesive wardrobe capsule that can work all year around. With all the variations in each of the eight patterns, there’s a total of 18 styles that you can make. All the patterns come in sizes that range from 00 to 20 (bust size 46”/117 cm and hip size 48”/122 cm).

The Castlepoint designed for woven fabrics is a faux-wrap skirt with overlapping petal shaped fronts. It is a pull-on skirt with a flat front and an elastic back waistband. It features a hi-lo hem and comes in both long and short options as well as inseam pockets.

For my Castlepoint skirt, I used a rayon challis that I got on my last visit to India. It is light weight and has a great drape and is perfect for this pattern. I made a size 2 based on my hip measurement and also shortened it at the lengthen/shorten line by 1″. I had just about enough fabric left over to eke out a matching Melrose Top. I’ve made the Melrose pattern before and it’s a really quick sew and I love how well it pairs with this skirt.

The weather was still quite pleasant around the time I made this pattern and this rayon skirt makes such a lovely summer skirt. Now that I have seen so many people make this in wool and silk blends and pair it with tights and boots, I am tempted to make another winter appropriate version. The short version of this skirt is really cute, it looks like a mini tulip skirt and I have seen some amazing fall weather skirts in plaid, faux leather and even suede. The itch to stitch designs group in facebook is chock full of inspiring creations using patterns from this book as well as patterns by the same designer Kennis Wong who is the founder and designer of Itch to Stitch Patterns.
The book SEW BEAUTIFUL: MAKE STYLISH HANDMADE CLOTHING WITH SIMPLE STITCH-AND-WEAR PATTERNS is available in both printed as well as digital Kindle version for pre-order on Amazon here.
