With straps that crossover in the back and elastic, the Cascade Maxi dress has no closures and is very quick to sew. It is designed for lightweight woven fabrics such as Rayon Challis, Chambray, Silk Crepe, Double Gauze, Lawn, Linen, etc. The entire dress is cut on bias to give the dress a lovely flow. I used a cotton lawn, (a gift from my Mom) with a lot of drape, and used french seams throughout.

This is view A of the dress, while view B gives you the option of adding a contrast hem. You have to go check out all the gorgeous tester versions from the listing.

Can you tell how much she loves this dress? We’re heading into winter and I was not sure of how practical this dress was going to be, but I am so pleased I gave in to the temptation of testing this pattern because this dress has been getting a lot of love and wear.

Even with all that fabric, it is nicely fitted at the top and I love that sweet little pleat detail in the front!

Gabriela’s patterns are some of the best out there, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned seamstress, you’ll find joy in sewing with every one of her patterns. From the careful attention to detail in the construction of the garment to the exceptionally well drafted pattern pieces, it is such a pleasure to use her patterns. I know ’cause I have used all of her patterns multiple times 🙂 – You can see my reviews of the Fishtail Kimono here and here, the Top knot romper here and here!

  3. I’m inspired by this pattern. My daughter loves to choose large bold prints and colours which often get chopped up and lost on dresses for littler girls. This pattern would showcase them beautifully! I adore yule red version. It’s a show shopping colour, but whether you get closer and see the pattern it makes you take a second look.

    1. Aww thanks for your sweet comments! I agree this is a great pattern to showcase bold prints. I was saving this fabric for myself but i guess it was destined for this dress 🙂
