Marcel Dresses – Chalk and Notch Patterns

I have so many fun pictures to share with you today. The Marcel dress & Tank Top by Chalk and Notch patterns is such a fun and breezy sun dress that’s easy to sew, and easy to wear. It’s a woven dress pattern that comes in sizes 0 -24 in two cup sizes. It’s fitted through the high bust and then hangs loose over the bust, waist and hips making fitting this pattern a breeze.

For my tank version, I used a cotton gauze from my stash. It has a crinkle texture and drapes beautifully. As recommended in the instructions, I did interface the bodice so it lays well.

Based on my high busy measurement (31″), I made a size 2 and shortened the straps by 1.5″ and it’s the perfect length for me.

I love this fabric, it is actually a border print that I’ve used before for my daughter’s Sullivan dress (By Sew Much Ado) and my Sisboom Shana Bell Sleeved pattern.

You might have already seen that there’s a Mini Marcel Dress & Tank Top for kids as well and of course I had to make a few of those for my daughter as well. Just like the Marcel pattern, the mini version also comes in tank and 2 dress lengths – mini and midi length.

For my daughter’s Marcel midi dress, we picked a bright pink lawn fabric that my mom gifted me during my last India trip. Her’s is the midi length in size 6 with the straps shortened by 1″ Needless to say, she loves it and prances around in it all day long. The fabric and the pattern are so perfect for summers – breezy and carefree!

I had the smallest amount of Nani Iro double gauze in my stash and was able to juuuuust fit a Marcel Tank for her. Isn’t it adorable?!

We then made some matching Marcels because, that’s been our thing lately. She’s always loved matching with me but she’s getting older and I am realizing that I probably don’t have too many of these days left. So I’m grabbing every opportunity I get to match with her.
