Today I’m sharing the third pattern from Kennis Wong’s book SEW BEAUTIFUL: MAKE STYLISH HANDMADE CLOTHING WITH SIMPLE STITCH-AND-WEAR PATTERNS. The Prague top and Dress is the first knit pattern in the book, it is designed for knit fabrics with about 40 – 60% stretch. This pattern comes in both top and dress length as well as short and 3/4 length sleeves. It also includes both round and V neck options. All the versions have the cold shoulder design detail. This little detail along with the slightly swingy silhouette elevates the pattern from just a basic tee or dress to a stylish garment that can be dressed up or down. This versatility is a recurring theme in every one of the patterns in the book. These are clothes that are not only simple and beautiful in design and construction but are also perfect for everyday life through different seasons. Isn’t that what we most home sewists look for when we make clothes?!

The fabric I used for my Prague top is actually a light to medium weight Ponte knit with just about 40% stretch percentage. It is slightly heavy for a tee but I love how stable and sturdy it was to work with. The way the cold shoulder feature is designed is really simple and easy to construct.

Having made so many polka dot garments, I think it is safe to assume that I’m drawn to polka dot prints. This tee slips easily into my wardrobe and goes with multiple bottoms from jeans and joggers to skirts so both design wise and fabric wise, this Prague top is a winner for me.
