I couldn’t be more excited to show off my version of the Top Knot dress! I’ve already made the romper version of this delightful pattern earlier and still can’t stop raving about it! This pattern comes in two romper lengths, two dress lengths and a tunic length in both short and long sleeves in sizes 18m to 12 years.

For this tour, I decided to attempt the maxi dress version: one because she’s finally old enough to wear a maxi dress (and not trip over it) and two because I had been saving this dreamy rayon challis fabric until the perfect pattern came along, and come it did!!!

 

 

I simply cannot get enough of her in her maxi dress!! and she? well to say she loves her ‘princess dress’ would be an understatement, she refused to take it off even after pictures and just kept twirling and prancing around 🙂

A princess dress makes for a very co-operative toddler model (I suppose a good nap helps too lol)

I usually have the hardest time picking out fabrics and deciding on the buttons and trims to go with the project but not this time. The soft mustard tie dye fabric, the gold cording and the antique looking buttons all came together like they were meant to be and I am so in love with the outcome.

 

One of the interesting features of this pattern is how the back wraps over to meet the pleats in the front. And, since I was using the same fabric throughout, I used the gold trim at that seam to break up the print a bit. I really love how the trim emphasizes those pretty little pleats.

 

I love how this pattern flows from a blousy bodice to the gently gathered waist to such an elegant flowing skirt!!

 

From the pleats, to the neck facing to the plackets, Gabriela walks you through every step with such detail and precision, that sewing this pattern was an absolute pleasure! You will love all the variations from a casual shorts romper to a floor length formal dress, and every style in between that you can achieve with this pattern.

 

 She twirls, dances, perches on the grass and even runs uphill in her maxi dress 🙂 I am beyond delighted with how this project has turned out!!!
